An analysis by Chris Glynn and Emily Fox, two statisticians, predicts that a 10% increase in rents in a high-cost city like NY would result in an 8% increase in the number of homeless residents.

• “Our homelessness budget is $462m, which is 25 times what it was in 2015,” says Christina Miller, the deputy mayor of LA.
